Oncoplastic breast surgeon and passionate ultrasound advocate Dr. Muneer Ahmed teaches ultrasound best practices to improve outcomes for breast cancer patients.

In this 1-hour webinar, learn how easy and affordable it is to add handheld ultrasound to your practice to improve oncologic effectiveness and aesthetic results. Dr. Ahmed teaches how to:

  • Identify, characterize, and precisely locate lesions in the breast on 1st or serial visits
  • Use ultrasound for pre-operative assessment and surgery planning
  • Confirm clip placement, wire, or seed location intraoperatively
  • Reduce the excision of margins intra-operatively and re-excision rates
  • Evaluate postoperative complications and interventions with ultrasound

“If you think about it, who’s removing the cancer from the patient?  It’s the surgeon.  So if there’s anyone who should know the exact location of the cancer, it really should be the surgeon,” says Dr. Ahmed. Wireless ultrasound makes that possible.

In this live webinar, Dr. Ahmed shares a real patient case from office visit to the operating room, to show how you can use handheld ultrasound to accurately and safely plan and guide breast surgeries for the best patient outcomes.

Approximately one third of all breast cancers are diagnosed by screening programs, which means they are likely non-palpable. Fine wire localization of the lesion is the traditional method of localizing and excising these cancers, but this can pose logistical issues and longer wait times for the patient.

Marker clips placed at the time of biopsy can be easily identified with ultrasound, at any time following their placement, for lesion assessment following chemotherapy or for precise surgery planning.

The portability of Clarius ultrasound has proven invaluable to Dr. Ahmed. He sees ultrasound as an inherent part of his practice in clinic, at the bedside, and in the operating room, building patient trust each step of the way.

Dr. Ahmed is joined by emergency physician Oron Frenkel and sonographer Shelley Guenther for live scanning to help you build practical skills. Don’t miss this webinar – watch now!

Muneer Ahmed is a leading, innovative and enthusiastic breast cancer surgeon. He believes in enhancing patient experiences through the application of minimally invasive techniques for bespoke breast cancer management He trained at the most advanced and comprehensive breast surgical oncology and reconstructive centres in the UK, Europe and Japan. He was awarded the prestigious Ronald Raven Travelling Fellowship by the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO) to train in intraoperative ultrasound-guided breast surgery at Universitario Val d’Hebron, Barcelona, Spain and trained in video-assisted breast surgery (VABS) at Sanno Medical Centre, Tokyo, Japan. He completed his training with a Training Interface Group (TIG) National Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship at Charing Cross Hospital, London – one of the busiest breast reconstructive units in the country. He was awarded a PhD in Surgical Oncology from King’s College London (Guy’s Hospital) for his work on the application of magnetic nanotechnology to lesion localization in breast cancer under the supervision and mentorship of Professor Michael Douek. This work resulted in him being awarded a prestigious Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of England Research Fellowship and appointed Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London, whereby he extended his experiences of minimally invasive techniques including the magnetic technique and high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of breast lesions. During this period, he won numerous prizes including the European Society of Surgical Oncology EYSAC Research Fellowship and RCS Ethicon Travelling Fellowship to extend his work at the University of Tokyo, Japan. He strongly believes in advancing the field of breast surgery through his continued academic work and international collaborations for the benefits of his patients.
